The Balikbayan box is a beloved Filipino item. Filled with all sorts of goodies, this box is almost always sent between the Philippines and the US. That being said, I always felt that this box was a bridge between my family here and my family in the Philippines. This was originally created as an enamel pin, but I redrew the design as a shaker and included other items: cans of spam, Filipino clothing, a parol (Christmas star), and even a jar of Bagoong Monamon (Salted Anchovies)! As a tribute to my childhood experience of packing boxes with my grandma, this “balikbayan box” is addressed to Lola.
